Sher Afzal Marwat, a senior figure in Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), recently distanced the party from Adil Farooq Raja and Haider Raza Mehdi, well-known YouTubers. Marwat labeled them as ‘wrong numbers’ and accused them of harming Pakistan’s image and disrespecting its armed forces.
Sher Afzal Marwat remarks came in the wake of Adil Raja’s marathon live broadcast following the events of May 9, where military institutions faced scrutiny after the arrest of PTI founder Imran Khan. Despite Raja’s portrayal of being sympathetic towards PTI, Marwat emphasized that neither Raja nor Mehdi had any affiliation with the party.
Nepra increased electricity prices in Pakistan by Rs 7.5 per unit.
During the press conference, Marwat reiterated PTI’s unwavering support for the Pakistan Army, emphasizing that slogans of ‘Pakistan Army Zindabad’ were raised at PTI conventions, echoing the narrative of the party’s founder, Imran Khan. He categorically stated that PTI is a patriotic party and not against the armed forces.
Marwat expressed regret over various political parties accusing PTI of being anti-state, attributing such narratives to individuals like Adil Raja and Haider Mehdi.
Furthermore, Marwat assured that PTI would continue its struggle within the legal framework and urged party workers and supporters to reject individuals like Raja and Mehdi.
Last year, in November, Adil Farooq Raja and Haider Raza Mehdi were sentenced to 14 and 12 years of imprisonment, respectively, for inciting sedition. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) stated that both retired officers were convicted under the Pakistan Army Act and Official Secrets Act.
However, neither Raja nor Mehdi served their sentences, as they are currently residing outside of Pakistan.Marwat’s strong stance against individuals like Adil Raja and Haider Mehdi underscores PTI’s commitment to upholding national interests and disavowing those who seek to undermine them.
