Internet users in Pakistan are facing significant disruptions as damage to a vital submarine fiber optic cable connecting Singapore to Pakistan and Europe has led to five cuts, severely impacting online services, particularly those routed from the east.
The cable damage has caused widespread difficulties in accessing online content, with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) acknowledging the disruption and cautioning users about potential challenges, especially during peak evening hours.
Efforts to address the situation are underway, with the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) rerouting internet traffic from the eastern direction through alternative channels to alleviate strain on affected users. “PTCL traffic is not affected due to submarine cable cut,” a PTCL spokesperson clarified.
However, despite these measures, users may continue to experience difficulties until the fiber optic cable is fully repaired, a process estimated to take up to one month.
