According to the announcement of the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), the price of electricity has been increased by 4 rupees 56 paise per unit. In an official notification, the regulatory body cited the increase due to fuel cost adjustments for December 2023. This significant price hike raises concerns about its impact on consumers and raises questions about the economic consequences of rising energy prices in the capital.
Consumers, who are already dealing with expensive gas, are going to bear an additional burden due to the recent hike in electricity prices. An increase of Rs 4.56 per unit means an additional cost of Rs 39.80 billion to consumers, which will be received in their February 2024 electricity bills. This adds to the problems of financial pressure on households.
Note: The updated electricity prices won’t affect K-Electric and lifeline consumers.
