LAHORE: the Punjab government announced an additional seven-day holiday for schools. This decision comes amid protests from private schools against the prolonged break.
Extended Holidays Announcement
On Monday, Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar posted on X (formerly Twitter) that all public and private schools will be closed from May 25 to 31. The minister emphasized that protecting students from the extreme heat is the top priority, and schools conducting exams will be allowed to remain open conditionally.
Summer Vacations in Punjab Schools
Previously, on May 17, the Punjab government announced the summer vacation period for schools across the province. According to the notification, schools will be closed from June 1 to August 14.
Adjusted School Timings
Due to the severe heat, the Punjab government also adjusted school timings. Schools will open from 7 am to 11:30 am from Monday to Thursday and from 7 am to 10:30 am on Fridays.
Heatwave Warning
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has warned of a heatwave due to high atmospheric pressure, particularly affecting Punjab and Sindh. Temperatures are expected to be 4 to 6°C above normal from May 21 to 23 and 6 to 8°C above normal from May 23 to 27.
